Ed Gregor Stewardship Day

Dave Coutts and SRD staff planting treeA great big thank you to the over 300 volunteers that came out for our 10th Anniversary of the Ed Gregor Memorial Stewardship Day in our Crown Lands on Saturday June 5th during Environment Week.
Special thank-yous go out to Darryl Johnson and all of the SRD staff from the Blairmore and Calgary Land & Forest Division offices; the Hon. David Coutts - our very supportive MLA; our Crowsnest Forest Stewardship Society organizing committee; Glen French and the CNP Quad Squad; and all of the terrific sponsors who supply the equipment, materials, operators, and prizes to make this day such a success each year!Volunteers learning to Assess and GPS trails for trail monitoring project
Over 160 volunteers turned out for the sponsored breakfast of French toast, ham and eggs, and over 170 for the Alberta steak b'que - cooked by the Coleman and Blairmore Lions - thanks again for a wonderful job!
Some of the projects completed were:
  • Lost Creek Fire Area:
    50 ft. bridge installation on the Carbondale
  • South Shelter Carbondale - 550 trees planted, grass seeded, cleanup
  • Trapper's cabin general clean up
  • Trail and random camping cleanup
  • Atlas Staging Area - general clean up, grass seeded, gravel placed
  • McGillivray Staging Area - Weir rebuilt on lake, clearing blow down
  • Deadman Pass - brushing, clearing
    Allison X-Country trails - GPS/assessed, training volunteers for trail monitoring project
  • Chinook Lake - pathways & walkways repaired around lake
  • Random Camping Clean-up - around 90 volunteers worked throughout the C-5 area
  • Castle Mountain Ski Hill - pedestrian bridge built, x-country ski trails cleared
