Elk Hair Caddis & Variants

 
Hook: Standard Dry
Size: 10 to 16
Thread: Black or tan although variants can use a variety of colours
Body: Typically yellow, green, olive, tan, cream or ginger chenille with with a palmered brown hackle
Underwing: (Optional) Use antron or calf's tail ties on top to form the underwing
Wing: Elk hair in a variety of colours from darker brown to light tan colours tied on top with the butts extended forward to form the head.
 
Hatch on Crowsnest: Lime and Yellow Sallies - Mid May to end of August in size 10 to 16 usually with a yellow, green or lime coloured body and lighter coloured wing;  Caddis and Fall Caddis - Late August to mid October  in size 10 to 16 usually with an olive, tan, cream or ginger (size 10 to 12) coloured body and darker wing.
