What is there to do in the Crowsnest pass?
The Crowsnest pass is a hub for recreational and historical
activities in southwestern Alberta. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains it
offers a wide range of both summer and winter activities.
Amid spectacular mountain scenery you will find an 18-hole, par 73
golf course. The Crowsnest River is rated one of the finest spots in
the world for fly-fishing. The surrounding mountains offer great
hiking, caving, mountain biking, horseback riding, quading, and
dirt biking.
Winter fun comes in the form of snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing.
The Crowsnest Pass has been named the best overall snowmobiling area in
western Canada. There are over 30 kilometres of mapped trails for
cross-country skiing and 1200 vertical feet of downhill skiing,
including night skiing.
Much history is found here: Canada's deadliest rockslide,
where 90 million tons of rock broke away from the side of Turtle
Mountain in 1903. Canada's worst underground mining disaster that killed
189 men in 1914. Visit the Crowsnest Museum to view exhibits depicting
stories of bootlegging, murder and the story of the only women to be
hanged in the Province of Alberta. Tour the Bellevue Underground Mine,
Leitch Collieries, the Hillcrest Cemetery, and see the much photographed
Burmis Tree.
