This
is the anti-Westcastle Valley. Beginning with a gentle but bumpy ride up the
Westcastle valley the Middle Kootenay Pass starts to change it character soon
after the junction at 2.4 km. After crossing the Westcastle River the trail
start to climb gently until about the 5.0 km mark where it takes a big turn
uphill and climbs steady towards the pass. This climb seems to be unrelenting
especially in 30C weather. Once on top the view is marvellous and there is the
potential to climb the ridges on either side of the pass. In late August the
trail is a hot spot for huckleberries.
