Approaching the North Kootenay PassFollowing the MacDonald Creek trail go straight instead of making the turn to the south and continue across the Carbondale River where it begins it steep singletrack ascent up to a level trail along the side of the ridge. Once it levels off it continues along the ridge until it final steep ascent to Thomas Blakiston’s choice of a pass for the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1858. It was rejected by the Canadian Government due to security concerns... it was too close to the Canada-US Border.
