Sentinel

Sentry Siding was later renamed Sentinel and became a flag station on the CPR line. Sentinel saw the construction of the Kootenay Power Plant in the 1920s on the shores of Crowsnest Lake. It was also the site of the train robbery that led to the shoot out at the Bellevue Café in 1920. The Crowsnest Lake Dance Pavilion operating from 1930 to the mid 1960s was a bustling spot on Saturday nights as young and old danced the night away. This historic site has been stabilized and hopefully will be restored as it is the last existing example of an early Rocky Mountain Dance Hall. Today there are a number of residential and industrial properties in the Sentinel area. It is home to a rich archaeological site dating back 8000 years to the Raven's Nest people. There is a plan to develop condominiums and a hotel using the site of the old power plant.
